Juilliard String Quartet Appoints New Member

Celebrating its seventy fifth anniversary this season, the Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) has named violist Molly Carr to its ensemble. She joins violinists Areta Zhulla and Ronald Copes and cellist Astrid Schween. The quartet’s earlier violist, beloved Roger Tapping, handed away of most cancers in January 2022.

The JSQ members function lecturers on the establishment, main masterclasses, coachings, and personal instruction on campus, on tour, and with the fellows on the Tanglewood Music Heart.

Molly Carr is on the Pre-School college on the Juilliard Faculty, and with this appointment, she joins the faculty college. She additionally serves on the schools of the Manhattan Faculty of Music and Bard School Conservatory. Carr has been the recipient of quite a few worldwide awards, together with the Primrose Worldwide Viola Competitors, Chamber Music America, ProMusicis Basis, and the Davidson Institute.

Based in 1946, the Juilliard String Quartet is understood for commissioning new works by composers together with Lembit Beecher and Mario Davidovsky. This upcoming season brings premieres of two quartets by composers Jörg Widmann.
