The Knights is a Brooklyn-based orchestral collective fashioned by creative administrators and brothers violinist Colin Jacobsen and cellist Eric Jacobsen, the latter of whom conducts the ensemble. 

The Knights’ new album, “The Kreutzer Undertaking” will likely be launched on August 26, 2022, together with works by Colin, Anna Clyne, Janáček, and Beethoven, forward of the group’s scheduled performances and tour in Europe with VC Artist Ray Chen.

The primary video launch from the “The Kreutzer Undertaking” is an orchestral association of Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1 — also called the “Kreutzer Sonata.” This work was impressed by Leo Tolstoy’s 1889 novella of the identical title, which was primarily based on Beethoven’s Sonata No. 9 for violin and piano, later devoted to violinist Rodolphe Kreutzer.

The Knights’ response to those cornerstone works was a reimagining of the notorious sonata as orchestral items. Beethoven’s authentic was organized by Colin who performs solo violin within the orchestrated model, whereas Eric and composer Michael Atkinson organized and orchestrated Janáček’s String Quartet No. 1, of which the primary motion may be watched under.

“The Kreutzer Undertaking” album additionally continues the canon with Colin’s newly composed Kreutzings, which makes hidden allusions to each Beethoven and Janáček; plus a fee from Clyne, whose piece Shorthand takes its title from a line in Tolstoy’s novella: “music is the shorthand of emotion.” 

The Knights are a collective of musicians aiming to rework the orchestral expertise and get rid of boundaries between audiences and music. The group has toured and recorded with artists together with Yo-Yo Ma, Daybreak Upshaw, Béla Fleck, and Gil Shaham, plus has appeared at venues akin to Carnegie Corridor, Tanglewood, Ravinia, The Kennedy Heart, and Vienna Musikverein. 

The Jacobsen brothers, who run The Knights, are additionally founding members of the Brooklyn Rider string quartet. Since 2007, The Knights has toured constantly throughout the U.S. and Europe.
