Lincoln Middle will host its “East/West: A Symphonic Celebration” efficiency on July 20 at Alice Tully Corridor alongside the New Jersey Symphony (NJS) and its music director, Xian Zhang, who lately had her place prolonged.
The live performance will function celebrated and groundbreaking works by acclaimed Chinese language composers together with Jiping Zhao, Qigang Chen, Shiguang Wang, Sida Guo, and Zhang Qu, plus these by Western composers, Copland and Verdi.
Produced by the China Arts and Leisure Group (CAEG), this live performance is a part of the group’s “Picture China” cultural alternate initiative, which goals to introduce conventional and up to date Chinese language performing arts to world audiences.
The acclaimed soloists for the live performance embrace VC Younger Artist violinist Nancy Zhou, who will likely be performing Zhao’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and award-winning pianist Chelsea Guo enjoying Chen’s Er Huang piano concerto.
Each these up to date concertos incorporate conventional Chinese language sounds scored for Western orchestral devices, creating a contemporary East-meets-West live performance expertise.
Impressed by Chinese language folk-dance dramas, Hovering Wings and Confucius, Guo and Qu’s Picture China Suite, are included in this system and contain conventional Chinese language devices alongside the NJS. Moreover, Copland’s Appalachian Spring — initially scored for dance — is programmed as a Western counterpart for the Picture China Suite.

A graduate of Harvard College and former pupil of Miriam Fried on the New England Conservatory, Nancy Zhou is a laureate of the Isangyun, Sibelius, and Queen Elisabeth Worldwide Violin Competitions — and was given 1st prize on the 2018 Harbin Worldwide Violin Competitors, in Harbin, China.
