Violinist Jennifer Koh to Carry out Lisa Bielawa’s Violin Concerto

American composer Lisa Bielawa’s Violin Concerto titled Sanctuary is a three-movement violin concerto and is the fifth concerto work to be commissioned for “The New American Concerto” venture, which Koh launched in 2017. 

Additionally co-commissioned by Carnegie Corridor, this piece examines the multi-layered and culturally charged that means of the phrase “sanctuary” inside the American consciousness.  Koh gave the world premiere of Sanctuary in 2020 with the Orlando Philharmonic as co-commissioner.

Moreover, the world premiere of Koh’s sixth and newest fee, Procession by Missy Mazzoli, occurred this month on the Kennedy Middle, the place Koh carried out with the Nationwide Symphony Orchestra below conductor Gemma New. Koh made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 11. Bielawa is a Rome Prize winner in Musical Composition, recipient of the 2017 Music Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, 2020 OPERA America Grant for Feminine Composers, and was 2020-2021 Artist-in-Residence at Kaufman Music Middle

Her music has been premiered on the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, Lincoln Middle, Carnegie Corridor, The Kennedy Middle, SHIFT Competition, Naumburg Orchestral Concert events, Nationwide Cathedral, Rouen Opera, MAXXI Museum in Rome, and Helsinki Music Middle, amongst others.
